Advocate Tariqul Islam, the counsel of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, has said the verdict against the Jamaat leader was uncertain as he suddenly fell sick on Tuesday morning.
He said: “Nizami fell sick in the morning and is being taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. He cannot be taken to the tribunal. In that case, the verdict on his war crimes case is uncertain today.”
In the meantime, the jail authority has sent a letter to the tribunal authority saying Motiur Rahman Nizami suddenly fell sick and could not be taken to the tribunal right now.
Deputy Jail Super Mohammad Lablu has brought the letter to the tribunal in the morning, a few hours before the tribunal was set to deliver its verdict against the Jamaat leader.
The letter stated: “Nizami suddenly fell sick and he is physically unfit to appear before the tribunal right now.”
Farman Ali, senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail told the Dhaka Tribune: “The Jamaat leader suddenly fell sick early Tuesday. Three jail doctors have examined him and suggested full time rest and no movement. He is suffering from high blood pressure.”
He said: "Right now Nizami is sleeping. We will examine him once again and will decide whether he will be admitted at the PG Hospital."
