Bangladesh situation stable, Hamid tells UN chief

President Abdul Hamid has told UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that situation in Bangladesh is very stable now especially after the general election.

The president informed this to Ban Ki-moon when holding a meeting with the UN chief at UN headquarters here in Dhaka.

"People have accepted the election result and they are looking forward to a better future," he said

"A sense of relief prevails in the minds of the common people and they are least interested to have chaos and instability, president's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS quoting the president after emerging from the meeting.

During the meeting, President Abdul Hamid and Ban Ki-moon discussed various issues related to Bangladesh and the UN.

President Hamid said Bangladesh expects better representations in the command position in the UN peacekeeping missions as it is the highest troops sending country to UN peacekeeping activities.

"In keeping with our contribution and commitment to peacekeeping operations, we expect that Bangladesh will be better represented in the command position in the field and senior staff level both at civilian and uniform positions at the headquarters," the president said.

Ban Ki-moon appreciated development of Bangladesh in different sectors especially in the fields of poverty reduction, reproductive health care system and disaster management.

Ban Ki-moon also highly lauded Bangladesh's huge achievement in the field of disaster management.
