The government will upgrade 1,786 kilometre roads to four-lane to help faster vehicular traffic movement across the country, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
The minister made the disclosure while replying to a question from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari in the parliament on Thursday, reports BSS.
"The roads would be upgraded to four-lane under the technical assistance of sub-regional road transport project preparatory facility,” he said.
The minister informed the House that the feasibility study and detail design work is going on under the project for upgrading roads to four-lane.
He said the upgradation work of 70 kilometre road into four-lane from Joydebpur to Elenga has commenced under the South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Road Connectivity.
Quader also said the 192 kilometre construction of the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane is going on in full swing to complete the work by December this year.
The government has already upgraded Nabinagar-DEPZ-Chandra, while Joydebpur-Mymensingh and some other projects are being upgraded into four-lane, he added.
