Against the backdrop of recent militant offensives in Iraq, the Bangladesh government is considering the retraction of Bangladeshi nationals from Iraq, if it is required.
Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain informed reporters Thursday afternoon. He was talking to reporters after a meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies' (Baira) at his office.
He said a total of 50 Bangladeshi nationals were shifted to Kurdistan when violence hit the Iraqi city of Mosul. Of them, 30 have fled away.
"They might have fled as they spent a lot of money to go to the country in search of jobs and they do not want to come back," he added.
He also advised all expatriate Bangladeshi nationals in Iraq to remain alert.
The Iraqi government bolstered Baghdad's defences as militants pushed towards the capital.
After taking Mosul, militants in Iraq captured a major chunk of mainly Sunni Arab territory stretching towards the capital.
