The West Bengal State Government has yet to officially notify Bangladesh about the arrest of Nur Hossain, the prime accused of seven-murder case in Narayanganj.
“We are yet to get any official response from the state government,” Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh mission in Kolkata Abida Islam told the Dhaka Tribune over telephone at 5:30pm Tuesday.
It is a normal practice by the state government to inform the foreign mission concerned, if a foreign national is arrested, she said.
“In many cases it takes 15 days to one month to notify us about previous arrests.”
“It is a sensational case in Bangladesh but in West Bengal, it is just another arrest and the authorities will inform the Bangladesh mission after completing their procedures,” she added.
Nur Hossain along with three of his accomplices were arrested in Kolkata on Saturday night.
Earlier in the day, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh was still waiting for the official response from India about the arrest.
On Monday, the home ministry sent a letter to the foreign ministry to take necessary action to bring back Nur.
Alam told journalists that they had written to the Indian authority on home ministry’s request in order to formally know about the status of Nur Hossain and in what charge he was arrested.
“We cannot make comment based on media report,” he said adding, “the whole process takes time.”
Narayanganj police superintendent Khandkar Mohid Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune that they sent some documents, which would be needed to bring Nur Hossain back, to the home ministry.
“We will also send some other documents tonight,” he added.
