N'ganj killing: Nur's aide held in Faridpur
The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested a close aide of Nur Hossain, the prime accused of the seven-murder case, from North Channel of the district early Friday.
The arrestee, Murtaza Jaman Churchill, was the chief bodyguard of Nur Hossain. Sunil Kumar Karmakar, OC, DB, Faridpur, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police arrested Churchill, the chief bodyguard of Nur, from his father-in-law's house around 3am. He is now under DB custody.” Read more
CPD: Proposed budget lacks quality standard
Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has observed that the quality standard of the proposed budget for fiscal 2014-15 was in risk as it has “a wide gap between income and expenditure.”
The think-tank also said the financial structure of the budget was weak because of its poor connection with reality, and the projection of earnings made in the budget is inconsistent with the reality, historical trends and possibilities. Read more

PM arrives China
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached Kunming on a six- day official visit to China at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.

Huda: BNP gives legitimacy to Jan 5 polls
Bangladesh National Allaince Chairman Nazmul Huda has said the BNP-led 19-party alliance gave legitimacy to the January 5 elections as they boycotted the election.
He said: “It is illogical to boycott the election apprehending vote rigging. Crores of voters were ready to cast their votes for the BNP. By boycotting the election, BNP-led 19-party alliance deprived crores of voters to cast their votes.” Read more
Egypt brings in new sex assault laws
The government of Egypt has introduced new punishments for sexual harassment in an effort to crack down on the worsening problem.
Outgoing president Adly Mansour has issued a decree on Thursday criminalising sexual harassment, making it punishable by up to five years in jail,reports BBC. Read more
Plans massive, paths obscured
A new national budget of Tk250,506 crore for the fiscal year 2014-15 starting in July was placed in the parliament yesterday, aiming to accelerate the country’s economic growth at a pace it would gradually reach 10% in 2021.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith in his budget speech said this budget is a continuation of the government’s plan taken earlier in the previous 5-year term with the vision to transform Bangladesh into a middle income country. Read more
