The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested a close aide of Nur Hossain, the prime accused of the seven-murder case, from North Channel of the district early Friday.
The arrestee, Murtaza Jaman Churchill, was the chief bodyguard of Nur Hossain. Sunil Kumar Karmakar, OC, DB, Faridpur, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police arrested Churchill, the chief bodyguard of Nur, from his father-in-law's house around 3am. He is now under DB custody.”
Earlier on May 18, locals caught Shipon and Joha, two aides of Nur, from Kadamtoli area and handed them over to police after a mob beating. Later, they were shown arrested under section 54 and placed on remand.
NCC panel mayor, along with six others was abducted on April 27. Later, their bodies were found floating in River Shitalakhya on April 30.
Nazrul's wife filed an abduction case against Nur and four others on April 28.
Nur went into hiding immediately after the recovery of Nazrul's body.
