The much-talked-about Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project will receive Tk 81,00 crore allocation, the highest for any single project in the Tk250506 crore budget proposed for fiscal year 2014-15.
“The construction of the bridge is our topmost priority,” said Finance Minister while placing the budget in Parliament yesterday afternoon.
“It will create a direct road link between 19 districts of south-west region and Dhaka along with northern region of Bangladesh. Once completed, this will induce a growth to the tune of 1.2 percent of GDP per year,” he said.
The minister hoped that the construction of the main structure of the bridge would begin this month and the engagement of contractors for river training would take place in July-August.
The deal for building the bridge’s core structure will be signed between China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited and Bangladesh’s Bridge Division as the Chinese company has got the work order.
