A mentally challenged person was killed and 30 others were injured in separate train and road accidents in the city’s Chandgaon area and Lohagara upazila in Chittagong yesterday.
The deceased Md Liton, 50, was the son of Sadek Ali of Mohora area in Chandgaon, said police sources.
Khaled Kaisar, sub-inspector (SI) of Government Railway police outpost of Chittagong railway station, said Liton was crushed under the wheels of a Chittagong city-bound train from Dohazari, in Khejurtala area of Chandgaon around 7:30 am, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body and handed over it to the family after completing all the legislative proceedings, said the SI.
Meanwhile, at least 30 people sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway in Chunti area under Lohagara upazila in the district.
Nurul Islam, sub-inspector of Chunti Highway police outpost, said a Chittagong city-bound bus collided head-on with a goods laden truck on the highway around 8am, leaving 30 injured.
The 10 critically injured passengers were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and the other 20 had received primary treatment from the local hospital, the SI said.
Police seized the truck after the incident, but the truck driver and his assistant had managed to flee the scene, added the SI.
