The tax-free income ceiling for individual taxpayers is likely to remain unchanged at Tk2.20 lakh in the next fiscal year as Finance Minister AMA Muhith is set to place the budget proposal tomorrow.
But the ceiling for other categories like women, elderly of more than 65 years of age, disabled and freedom fighters would be increased, officials said.
A new slab would also be introduced with highest 30% tax for income over Tk44.20 lakh.
The limit for female and senior citizens would be raised from Tk2.50 lakh to Tk2.75 lakh and for physically challenged from Tk3 lakh to Tk3.50 lakh. For freedom fighters it would be set at Tk4 lakh.
Other than the tax-free income threshold, the income tax slabs would be like 10% tax on Tk5 lakh income, 15% for next Tk7 lakh, 20% for next Tk5 lakh, 25% for next Tk25 lakh and 30% for over Tk44.20 lakh.
