A bogie including the engine of Dhaka-bound Upakul Express has been derailed near Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Pubail station area under Gazipur sadar on Tuesday afternoon.
Bhairob railway police station Inspector Md Saidul Islam said: “The bogie including the engine of the train derailed while crossing Pubail station around 2pm.”
“Upon receiving information, a rescue team has been sent to the spot around 3pm. The number of casualties and reason behind the accident could not be known immediately,” he added.
Rescue operation is still underway till filing of this report at 7:50pm, said Rafiqul Islam, Tongi railway junction station master.
Railway communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country has remained normal, he added.
However, the schedule of Sylhet-bound Jayantika Express was postponed due to the derailment.
