4 policemen hurt in fire exchange with robbers

Four police officers have been injured in a fire exchange incident between some robbers and the law enforcers in Aauskandi area under Nabiganj upazila of Moulvibazar on Sunday night.

The injured are: Moulvibazar Sadar Model police station ASP Sirajul Huda, OC Sheikh Salek, OC (investigation) Dilip Das and constable Alfaz.

A member of the robbers' gang received bullet wounds during the firing. Eleven robbers were arrested from the scene.

Nabiganj police station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Alam said: “Acting on a tip off, a police team chased the robbers while they were taking preparation to rob in Goalabazar area around 11:30pm.”

Meanwhile, the robbers fired eight to ten rounds of bullets targeting the police forcing the law enforcers to fire back. Four police members were injured and a robber, Lutfor Rahman, was shot during the firing.

“During interrogation, the arrested robbers admitted that they are involved in robberies in different areas of the district,” the OC said.

He said a case was filed against them in this connection.
