BNP: AL tenure characterised by formalin

Update : 01 Jun 2014, 11:27 AM

Terming Sheikh Hasina's government risky, the BNP has said the Awami League government has been using formalin everywhere in society.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the remarks just after a day of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's claim that formalin keeps BNP alive.

"Her [Hasina] tenure is characterised in formalin. They have been using formalin in every sector including politics, economy and socio-politics very efficiently," Fakhrul said while addressing a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Sunday afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a press conference on Saturday at Ganabhaban said they have been trying to keep BNP alive using formalin.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at a public meeting in Munshiganj said Awami league has become rotten and it needs formalin to stay alive.

Protesting the Prime Minister's speech, Fakhrul said: “BNP does not depend on anyone's mercy, it is moving forward with the people's affection and support.”

The spokesperson of the party threw a challenge to the government to test its popularity holding elections under a non-partisan interim government. "Then it will prove who are popular and who are alienated from the people."

Regarding the prime minister's statement of the trial of Jamaat, Fakhrul said: "We need to observe the prime minister's speech for some more times. But people have already started raising questions whether the Awami League sticks to its earlier position."
