The bodies of six Bangladeshi migrant workers, who were killed in a fire accident in Riyadh, arrived in Dhaka yesterday afternoon.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the bodies of Matiur Rahman, Mohammad Jalal, Md Selim, Shah Alam, Khorshed and Zakir Hossain landed at the Shahjalal International Airport at 3:15pm yesterday.
Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Khandaker Shawkat Hossain handed the bodies over to the respective families.
Each of the families were also given a cheque of Tk35,000 for transportation and burial costs.
The fire, which took place on May 12 in a furniture shop, Titas Furniture, in Riyadh, killed a total of nine Bangladeshi migrant workers.
It is to be noted that the government allocates Tk3 lakh as compensation for the family of any migrant worker who dies abroad.
