The Walton Smartphone 27th National Senior Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship gets underway at the Muhammad Ali Boxing Stadium tomorrow.
The three-day meet will see 92 male and 20 female boxers from 31 teams take part in 10 different weight categories.
Ever since taking over the helm in January this year, the new executive committee of the Bangladesh Boxing Federation has taken the initiative to organise more tournaments consistently. The 27th edition of the national boxing meet is seeing light after a gap of three years with the last edition held in 2010.
Moreover, the boxing federation officials will be keenly following the performances of three boxers - Shur Krishna Chakma in the 60kg category, Al Amin in the 64kg and Md Arif Hossain in the 69kg category. In a presser held at the conference room of the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday, boxing federation general secretary MA Kuddus Khan pinned his hopes on the three boxers who might bring laurels for the country in the upcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games.
Sponsors Walton provided a purse of Tk400,000 to the boxing federation officials which was handed over by AFM Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn, additional director. Federation senior vice president SM Alam and officials Sultan Uddin Ahmed and QA Mannan were also present on the occasion.
