6 migrants’ bodies arrive today

Bodies of six Bangladeshi migrant workers who were killed in a fire in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka this afternoon.

The fire, which took place on May 12 in a furniture shop named Titas Furniture, killed a total of nine Bangladeshi migrant workers.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the bodies of Matiur Rahman, Mohammad Jalal, Md Selim, Shah Alam, Khorshed and Zakir Hossain is scheduled to land at Shahjalal International Airport at 3pm, according to a press release issued by the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The process of sending the other three bodies is still in progress, stated the press release.

“I will hand over the bodies to their respective families at the airport,” said Md Ziauddin, director of the board, while talking to the Dhaka Tribune over phone yesterday.

He also said each of the families would be given a cheque of Tk35,000 for transport and burial cost. The families have been advised to bring necessary documents.

It is to be noted that the government also allocates Tk3 lakh for the family of a migrant workers who die abroad.
