Explosion cracks high-rise in capital

A gas pipeline explosion has left few cracks in a high-rise in the capital's Kalyanpur area on Wednesday evening.

A few were injured while trying to evacuate the high-rise, Mizan Tower, in panic.

Earlier, quoting a police official of Mirpur Zone, Dhaka Tribune had reported that the high-rise was subdued due to a generator explosion.

Hasan Khaled, one of the witnesses, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The building authority started evacuating the people living in the building immediately after the incident.”

Some two or three people received injuries while evacuating the buildng," he added.

Later, two units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot to rescue the panic-stricken people.

A crack had developed on the ground floor of the building due to the blast, reported our Senior Staff Sub-Editor Humayun Kabir from the spot at 8:15pm.

Some five-seven adjacent buildings and 15-20 shops were also evacuated, he added.

Both sides of main road from Shyamoli to Gabtoli was blocked in order to avert any incident. Additional law enforcers have been deployed in the area to secure people's safety.

Later, one side of the road (Shyamoli to Gabtoli) has been opened at 9pm, said our correspondent.
