Outlawed leader killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

An outlawed leader of the Purba Bangla Communist Party was killed in a "gunfight" with police at Tala upazila of the district early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Gaffar Par alias Tushar, a regional commander of the outlawed outfit. Two police members were injured and an associate of Gaffar received bullet wounds during the “gunfight”. Later, police recovered arms and bullets from the spot. Tala police station officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique said they conducted a drive in Tengrar field area as they had information that the cadres of the outlawed party were holding a secret meeting. Meanwhile, the outlawed party members fired targeting the police. In retaliation, police fired back triggering a “gunfight”, leaving two outlawed men wounded with bullets. The duo were rushed to Tala upazila health complex where duty doctor declared Gaffar dead.
