HC stays REHAB election

Update : 26 May 2014, 02:17 PM

The High Court on Monday has stayed further proceedings of the executive committee election of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) for three months.

The election for the term of 2014-16 is scheduled to be held on May 31.

A High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain has passed the order in response to a writ petition.

Prof Abu Yusuf Md Abdullah, chairman of Prashad Nirman Ltd, filed the petition saying he was excluded from the finally nominated candidates after being elected as a valid candidate.

The bench asked as to why the action of the respondents excluding Abdullah should not be declared arbitrary and illegal.

The commerce secretary, trade organisation director of commerce ministry, FBCCI chairman, REHAB election appeal board chairman, election board chairman and REHAB president have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

Supreme Court lawyer AM Amin Uddin contended for the petitioner while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the government.
