Nazrul’s 115th birth anniversary being observed

The 115th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed across the country.

Various socio-cultural organisations have organised elaborate programs to mark the day.

The theme for this year's celebrations is 'Nazrul and non-communalism'.

The main national program is being held at Darirampur High School in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be the chief guest, while Religious Affairs' Minister Principal Matiur Rahman will be the special guest.

Minister for Cultural Affairs' Asaduzzaman Noor will chair the function.

The Minister for Cultural Affairs' Asaduzzaman Noor placed wreaths at 6:45am at the graveyard of the poet on the Dhaka University premises.

The Shilpakala Academy and Nazrul Institute is organising cultural programs at the Shilpakala Academy to celebrate the day.

The Nazrul Institute is also holding a three-day program from 25 May to 28 May.

In consonance with the main national program, the local administration in Chittagong and Comilla's Daulatpur, where the poet spent part of his youth, is organising programs to observe the 115th birth anniversary of the national poet.

The Nazrul Institute and Bangla Academy have published souvenirs and posters to mark the occasion.

The Nazrul Institute is organising an exhibition of photographs, posters and books to introduce the poet to the new generation.

The directorate of public library is holding a book exhibition and reading and essay competitions on the day.

The day is being observed befittingly in all education institutions of the country including Dhaka.

Bangladesh embassies abroad are also organising functions to celebrate the occasion.

Districts that have not been included in the national program are organising programs to celebrate the day with assistance of the local district administration and legislators.

The local committees comprise among others, Nazrul researchers, teachers, artists, litterateurs and elites of the area.

Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, along with private channels, are telecasting the national level programs extensively.
