Rajarbagh explosion injures 5 policemen

Five police members have sustained injuries as a sound grenade exploded accidentally during a training session at Rajarbagh police lines in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The injured policemen were admitted to the adjacent Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital. Details of the injured policemen could not be known immediately.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner at the Media Centre of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told the Dhaka Tribune: “Few more policemen sustained minor injuries in the explosion. The sound grenade exploded due to wrong handling of the weapon around 6:00pm.”

The injured policemen were supposed to join the UN Peace Keeping Mission,” he added.

He further said: “During the training programme, some officials of the UN Peace Keeping Mission were also present, but they remained unhurt.”

Earlier on May 14, nine members of the Bangladesh Army sustained injuries in a grenade explosion during a training session at Kholahati Shaheed Mahbub Cantonment in Parbatipur upazila in Rangpur.

On February 12, two army personnel and four members of the Border Guard Bangladesh were killed and 11 others sustained injuries after a mortar shell went off accidentally during a training session in the firing range of Ghatail Cantonment in Tangail.
