Indefinite transport strike in northern districts

Update : 24 May 2014, 11:44 AM

Transport workers in eight northern districts have called an indefinite transport strike from Sunday demanding ban on shallow-engine run auto rickshaw.

Regional committee (Rajshahi) of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation has made the announcement on Saturday afternoon.

Monjur Rahman Peter, leader of the organisation told Dhaka Tribune that the strike would begin at 6pm.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the leaders of the organisation at a local hotel.

Despite Rangpur district being kept out of the purview of the strike, there would be no transport with the districts of Rajshahi division, as Bogra is on the route which falls within the areas that the strike covers.
