'Illegal govt has no right to place budget’

Update : 24 May 2014, 07:57 AM

Terming the government an illegal one, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has claimed that it does not have any right to place budget for next fiscal year.

The BNP chief made the statement while addressing a protest rally of the BNP-backed lawyers at the National Press Club on Saturday after police foiled the gathering on Supreme Court premises.

The Awami League formed the government through the January 5 election. The then main opposition BNP had boycotted the election. Since the ruling Awami League took office, the BNP has been claiming it an "illegal" government.

Khaleda said: “The government cannot place the budget before the House as there are no people’s representatives in the parliament.”

The ruling Awami League government is doing various criminal activities with the help of the members of the law enforcing agencies to cling to power.

As per the direction of the government, the law enforcers have been making the arrest in the late night, the BNP chief alleged.

She urged the law enforcement agencies not to arrest in the darkness of night.

She demanded not to make arrest anyone without the presence of a magistrate and without arrest order.

Khaleda also demanded to disband the elite force RAB as they are involved in crimes.

She has again accused the government of disappearance, killings across the country.

She also condemned the impeding their program by the law enforcers which was scheduled at the Supreme Court.

“The ruling party now is now fighting among themselves over interest,” Khaleda said.

Citing the Narayanganj killing incident, she said: “The real culprits who were involved have not arrested yet.”

“And those who have been arrested have been kept in luxurious condition.”

Citing leaked telephone conversation, Khaleda said the killers of seven people in Narayanganj were let go abroad instead of arresting.

She said there is no democracy, good governance, rule of law in the country. And the human rights are being violated in every step of the government.

The BNP chief has warned the government not to cross the limit.

She also warned that there would be trial for the ruling party's misdeeds in future.

There will be no peace or democracy in the country until the illegal government goes.

The government which refers to constitution very frequently, is the most violator of it

Protesting the misrule, BNP will announce the program in the right time, she said.
