The ministry of fisheries and livestock has urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to enhance the status of the fisheries and livestock sector as agriculture sub-sector, so it can get more facilities and incentives from the budgetary allocation.
In response, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, however, yesterday assured the minister, state minister and high officials of the ministry of providing adequate supply of power for the poultry and hatchery farmers as like as other farmers.
The premier came up with the assurances as she visited to the ministry under her routine job to visit various ministries to oversee the overall activities of various ministries.
She also assured the high officials of the ministry of giving sufficient budgetary allocations for the ministry to produce and supply more milk, meat and eggs across the country.
Expressing her satisfaction over the implementation of the development projects and achievements of the ministry, the prime minister has agreed to allocate sufficient budget for the ministry, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Sayedul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune immediately after the meeting.
“Though the planning ministry has agreed to give us Tk603 crore from the development budget, we have sought more allocation for us. Our estimated demand to the government is Tk955 crore for the implementation of the development programme,” he added.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the ministry officials to work attentively and thus can contribute to the progress of the country.
The fisheries and livestock sector is contributing around 8% to the national income while 90% of the animal protein comes from the livestock sub-sector, said the prime minister.
