MK Rahman resigns from post of prosecution coordinator

Former additional attorney-general M Khalilur Rahman, who was relived from his post on Monday, resigned from the post of chief coordinator of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

He submitted his resignation letter to the office of the acting secretary of the law and justice division on Tuesday.

The resignation letter was sent to the law secretary’s office without any reason being mentioned.

MK Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “I have sent the letter and the ministry will take further steps in this regard.”

Syed Aminul Islam, the acting secretary of the law and justice division, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Rahman may submit his resignation letter. But, I am yet to be aware about the letter. Next steps will be taken after getting the letter in my hands.”

MK Rahman was appointed as the chief coordinator of the ICT prosecution team as an additional attorney general. He was given the status of an attorney general for the responsibility.

The order that the ministry issued on Monday giving him relieve from his office did not mentioned that he would be removed from the charge also or not. Being relieved from the main job, Rahman submitted his resignation to get relieved from the additional responsibility.

But, he denied disclosing the reason of his removal from the Attorney General’s Office saying, “I am not aware about the reason.”
