PM son urges boycott of Prothom Alo

Update : 20 May 2014, 10:00 AM

Sajeeb Wazed Joy has called upon to boycott Bangla daily Prothom Alo for citing the liberation war of Bangladesh as an India-Pakistan War.

He made the call in a Facebook status on Monday.

In his post, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Joy wrote, “Our biggest Bengali newspaper the Prothom Alo has mentioned our great liberation war as an India-Pakistan war, by which the three million martyrs have been dishonored.

I think this has been a heinous crime and I think the people who are responsible for this are necessary to be discharged from the posts.”

Following the landslide victory of BJP in India Lok Sabha election, Prothom Alo published a short biography of the party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. In the biography the newspaper used the 'India-Pakistan' phrase that appeared to be denoting the Bengali's liberation war. This later induced repercussions in the social media.

Joy, the premier's information technology advisor, said: “However, this didn't surprise me, if you remember the days in 2007 to 2008, the Prothom Alo took a blatant stance in support of the military autocracy, it proved again that it doesn't believe in democracy.

“Let us boycott Prothom Alo and we convey the message to them that whoever doesn't support Bangladesh, we will resist them.”
