Kamaruzzaman appeal hearing deferred

Update : 20 May 2014, 05:28 AM

The Appellate Division has deferred until June 3 the hearing on the appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Kamaruzzaman challenging the death penalty for war crimes.

A four-member bench led by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has passed the order in response to a five-week time plea filed by the defence lawyers.

Earlier, Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain formed the four-member bench of the Appellate Division for hearing the appeal.

On May 9 of last year, International Crimes Tribunal 2 awarded death penalty for Jamaat leader and former al-Badr man Kamaruzzaman on two out of the seven charges brought against him.
