Update : 19 May 2014, 07:51 PM

The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) evicted several illegal establishments in the port city in separate drives yesterday.

A CCC mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Nazia Shirin, with the assistance of the police demolished 50 illegal establishments on the bank of Tekhbazar canal in the city’s Chandgaon area.

“A section of people had occupied the land on the bank of the canal by setting up shops and houses.  The drive against the illegal establishment began at around noon and ended by 3:00pm,” Nazia Shirin told the Dhaka Tribune.

Meanwhile, CDA demolished more than 50 illegal establishments from Chawkbazar to Bahaddarhat area in the city at the same time.

As part of a project to widen the Chawkbazar-Bahadderhat road, the CDA authorities demolished illegal establishments set up on both sides of the road.

CDA Deputy Chief City Planner Sarwar Uddin Ahmed said the authority had given a week to those who agreed to demolish their illegal establishments.
