MV Miraj 4 owner, 6 others sued

A case has been filed on Thursday against seven people, including the owner of ‘MV Miraj 4’, in connection with the launch capsize in Munshiganj.

Haidar Hossain Akand, sub-inspector of Gazaria police station, filed the case early Sunday against Khandaker Anwar Hossain, owner of ‘MV Miraj 4’ and six others identified and 2/3 unidentified people.

The six identified accused are Captain Shamsuddin, his assistant Mintu, Master Rafiqul Islam, Ticket Master Dulal, Cabin boys Nurul Islam and Dulal.

Ferdous Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Gazaria police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that police filed the case as per existing criminal act.

Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Md Jakir Hossain said: “Police field the case to arrest the accused who were behind the deadly launch capsize as BIWTC didn't file any lawsuit in this connection.”

The Sureshwar-bound launch, MV Miraj 4, carrying over 200 passengers, capsized near Daulatpur area of Gazaria Launch Ghat in the Meghna River after it was caught by a torrential storm on May 15, leaving 55 people dead.
