The nursing students went on demonstration protesting an assault on one of their fellow students by the intern doctors in Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in the morning on Monday.
Following an altercation between intern doctor Tofayel Ahmed and Nursing student Pralaya around 12:30am on Monday, a group of intern doctors allegedly assaulted the nursing student.
When Nursing students came to know of the incident, they took to the street boycotting classes and laid a blockade on the adjacent road.
Later, they brought out procession inside the campus demanding punishment against those who assaulted the Nursing student.
Witnesses said around two hundred students were agitating outside the gate. However, the police pushed them inside. Later, they were demonstrating in front of gate no 1.
Sajidul Islam, an agitating Nursing student said they would keep the protest on until proper action is taken.
Dr Tanmay Bhattacharya, director of the hospital said the activities of the hospital remained normal despite agitation of the nursing students.
