No list of PM’s assurances to LGRD Ministry

Update : 18 May 2014, 08:42 PM

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Assurance has expressed dissatisfaction at the inability of the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives to provide a list of assurances made to it by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the ninth parliament.

At a meeting held in the House yesterday, members of the committee said they were discontented with the ministry’s inability to come up with such a list.

“The ministry is unable to provide any list of assurances made to it by the premier in the previous parliament. This is unexpected,” said Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, a member of the committee and also a whip of the parliament.

The committee also asked for the list of assurances made by the LGRD and Cooperatives Minister in the ninth parliament and the list it received only contained five items.

“Did the minister make only five promises in the previous five-year tenure? It is certain that he made more. Besides, I know there was an assurance concerning a project under my constituency but I cannot find it now on the list,” Shahiduzzaman said.

The committee said success of the government mostly depended upon keeping the promises made by a ministry.

“We asked the LGRD Ministry to come up with the full list. It is a very important ministry. This is why keeping its promises is also important,” said Shahiduzzaman.

Kazi Keramat Ali, chaimran of the committee, presided over the meeting while Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Md Abdul Quddus, AKM Shahjahan Kamal and several others attended it.
