The Chittagong University Saturday has suspended a teacher who was arrested earlier this month along with 20 other Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists.
The teacher, Dr Habibur Rahman of Zoology department, was suspended for his alleged involvement in plotting violence with Jamaat activists.
Alamgir Chowdhury, acting registrar of the university, told Dhaka Tribune that the vice chancellor Anwarul Azim Arif had suspended Habibur Rahman temporarily as per section 15 of university service rules.
The registrar also said: “If the teacher is not found guilty in the legal procedure, he will be able to join his service again.”
On May 12, Habibur was arrested from the party office of Jamat-e-Islami at Dewan Bazar area in Chittagong city.
Police arrested him along with 20 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including city unit ameer Samshul Islam. They were allegedly holding a secrete meeting to plot violence.
Habibur has been under police custody since then.
