Female doctor among two die in road accident

At least two people including a female doctor was killed and another four injured in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Barabkunda and Banshbaria areas under Sitakundu upazila in Chittagong yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sanchita Biswash, 28, a doctor and wife of Santanu Kar, a doctor of Dhaka Sishu Hospital and Barek, 40, said police sources.

Quoting family members, police said Sanchita passed MBBS from the Syhlet Medical College and was selected as a specialist doctor for the post of Major at the Medical Core of Bangladesh Army.

 She was supposed to join the Army on May 17. She served as a pediatric doctor at Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujib Medical University in last year and used to live with her husband Santanu in the capital, said family members.

Syed Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Baro Awlia highway police outpost, said a passenger bus of Hanif Paribahan collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Barabkunda area of the upazila at 6:30am, leaving the doctor dead on the spot and injuring four others.

The injured received primary treatment in different local hospitals, added the OC.

Meanwhile, a person named Md Barek sustained critical injuries as an unknown vehicle ran over him on Dhaka-Chittagong highway’s Banshbaria area under Sitakunda upazila.

Nayek Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost said Barek was rushed to the CMCH in a critical condition where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
