At least 9 members of the Bangladesh Army sustained injuries in a grenade explosion during a training session at Kholahati Shaheed Mahbub Cantonment in Parbatipur upazila on yesterday afternoon.
Concerned officials at the Directorate of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said four among the injured personnel, who have sustained severe injuries, have been rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka by a helicopter.
The ISPR officials also said the condition of those four injured Army members was stated to be critical while the rest five members sustained minor injuries.
Asked, the ISPR officials the Army members sustained injuries as one of the grenades went off accidentally at around 3:10pm due carelessness in the handling of the grenade after its pin had been opened.
The ISPR officials however could not provide the identities of the injured Army members and their details.
But sources said the injured Army men were identified as warrant officers Ketabul Islam, Mohammad Ali, Corporals Abdul Mannan, Golam Rasul, Sergeants Fazlul Haque and Rowshan Ali, Sepoys Bikash Chandra Roy, Abdur Rahman and ‘Zahir’.
All of them were members of Rangpur Cantonment’s 34 East Bengal Regiment.
Earlier on February 12, at least 2 army personnel and four members of Border Guard Bangladesh were killed and 11 others sustained injuries after a mortar shell went off accidentally during training in the firing range of Ghatail Cantonment in Tangail
