'RAB men not held due to government's inaction'

Update : 14 May 2014, 01:46 PM

Criticising the government's inaction in arresting the three RAB officials, Advocate Sultana Kamal said the accused RAB officials in the Narayanganj seven-murder case have not been arrested as the government failed to establish good governance.

She said: “ The suspected RAB officials have not been arrested only because of the administrative failures of the government.”

She made the observation while addressing a programme in the capital's Brac University on Wednesday morning.

Emphasizing on the necessity of establishing good governance in the country, she said the incidents of human rights violation and corruption in law enforcing agencies would be reduced if the institutions of state are run properly and effectively.

She said: “The integrity of the system is hampered due to the lack of transparency and accountability.”

The former adviser of a caretaker government and, also the TIB trust board chairman, said the constitution has vested all power in the hands prime minister.

“So whoever gets the power, get the chance to use it as per his/her whims,” she added.
