A BNP leader has been hacked to death at Nimtala bus stand area under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain, 48, son of former municipal mayor Abdur Rahman and the BNP president of Kaliganj municipal ward 1.
Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Anwar Hossain said: “A group of unidentified miscreants attacked Ismail while he was returning home around 8:30am.”
“They hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him severely injured,” he said.
Locals rushed him to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
Later, he was shifted to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead around 9:15am.
Upazila BNP General Secretary Ainal claimed that Awami League leaders and activists have killed Ismail.
