A new reality TV series - Amrai Pari – aiming to help communities work together to prepare for and respond to extreme weather conditions, begins airing today on BTV. The eight episode series has been made by BBC Media Action with funds from the UK Department for International Development and will be broadcast on BTV every Monday at 9:30pm. The episodes will be repeated on Wednesdays at 2:15 pm.
The deteriorating weather conditions of the country prompted the BBC Media Action to launch a programme to educate people who do not know how to respond to the challenges of extreme weather conditions. Presenters Tanzir Tuhin, Shahana Rahman Shumi and Kazi Tanveer have travelled to the chars of Kurigram to drought-afflicted Noagaon to Kuakata coastal areas, meeting communities who have adapted to changing weather conditions. On their travels, they learn firsthand about how people across the country are improving their chances against climate change in exciting and unusual ways.
The adaptations to cope with natural disasters include production of agricultural items at homesteads during flood, raising homestead as well as latrines to stay safe, developing new ways of earning money, moving fast to the shelter when cyclones hit, and repairing shelter or home in innovative ways.
