3 hour halt in DMCH emergency service

Medical services at the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital have been halted for nearly three hours following an attack over doctors by unidentified criminals on Saturday night.

Witnesses and members of Shahbagh Police Station said a gang of unidentified criminals attacked on five to six DMCH doctors leaving one critically injured around 9:30pm.

The injured was Mominul Islam, 28, a honorary doctor of DMCH.

Later, the internee and honorary doctors launched angry agitations around 11:30pm keeping the emergency unit shut for over an hour.

The agitating doctors also demanded the resignation of DMCH director Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman for his failure in protecting the doctors.

Sub-Inspector Mozammel Huqe, the In-charge of DMCH outpost told the dhaka Tribune that necessary security measures have been taken in DMCH and a case will be filed with Shahbagh police station soon.

Emergency service and and treatment activities resumed at 12:00am, he added.

DMCH Director Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman told journalists that farm action will be taken in this connection.
