Update : 10 May 2014, 02:56 PM

Businessmen, teachers, students and locals in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail have given a 24-hour ultimatum on Saturday to rescue abducted businessman Bari and arrest kidnappers.

Abdul Bari, 45, went missing from his shop at Ghonarchala Bazar in the upazila on May 6.

The deadline has come from a rally at Kachua Bazar bus stand of the upazila at noon.

Locals and upazila chamber leaders have warned that if Bari was not rescued and kidnappers were not arrested by the deadline, the locals would wage a tougher agitation programme in the area.

Upazila vice-chairman Sabur Reza, upazila president of teachers association Sahidul Islam, former Union Parishad (UP) chairman Amzad Hossain, among others, spoke in the agitation programme.

Bari went missing while he was in election campaign for upcoming Ghonarchala Bazar Bonik Samiti election.

He was a candidate for cashier post in the election.

His wife Mazeda Begum filed a General Diary (GD) with Sakhipur police station on May 7 in this connection.
