Society of Musical Bands Bangladesh (SMB), a newly formed association of musical bands officially announced its formation through a press conference yesterday at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Segun Bagicha.
The organisers stated that the prime objective of the association is to spread the success of musical bands in Bangladesh and create a bridge between the older and younger musicians of the country. Organising indoor/outdoor/lounge concerts, workshops and reunion of musicians, SMB will work to strengthen the bond between the musicians, the organisers claimed.
They promised to arrange jatra, puppet shows, boat racing and other events that promote the culture and heritage of Bangladesh. The association also expressed their interest to launch campaigns against issues like preserving intellectual property rights and piracy to save the music industry.
Mehmud Afridi Toni of Black is elected the president of SMB while Hasan of Ark will act as the vice-president. Other executive members include Ershaduzzaman of Artcell, Shafkat Ahmed Deepto of Oronno and Mohammad Ali Sumon of Pentagon, Ziaur Rahman of Shironamhin, Sheikh Shahed Ali of Gaach, Rashed Ahmed Tapu of Yatree, Jamshed of Powersurge and Romance of Six.
