The 153rd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore is being observed on Thursday.
The government has chalked out various programmes to mark the day.
The day is being observed with the theme “Rabindranath and Bangladesh”.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will be present as the chief guest in the programme to be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium around 11am.
Later in the day, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organise a cultural programme at its premises around 7pm.
The birth anniversary programme is also being observed at the places including Sheliadah of Kushtia, Shahzadpur in Sirajganj, Patisar in Naogaon and Dakshindihi in Khulna.
Meanwhile, a three-day programme has begun at Sheliadah Kuthibari in Kushtia on Wednesday.
Besides, a discussion will be held at Bangla Academy on May 9 .
State-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) and other private TV channels are telecasting the various programme on this occasion.
