A Dhaka Court has framed charges against BNP Standing Committee Member MK Anwar in a defamation case filed against him for commenting against Debashish Biswas, president of Swechchhasebak League of Dhaka city (south) unit.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh has framed the charges in presence of BNP leader MK Anwar on Wednesday afternoon.
The court has also fixed July 27 for the first hearing of witnesses.
On May 7, 2013, Debashish Biswas filed a case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, accusing MK Anwar of making false and derogatory statements at a press conference following the widespread violence, which occurred in the capital on May 5, the day of Hefazat-e-Islam’s Dhaka siege.
In his complaint, Debashish mentioned that Anwar at a press conference said he (Debashish) burnt the Holy Quran near Baitul Mukarram Mosque during Hefazat’s violence on May 5.
