Channel i celebrates Rabindra Joyonti

Channel i is gearing up to hold its 9th Rabindra Mela on May 8 marking the 153th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on their premises in Tejgaon. This year, the organisers conferred lifetime achievement award upon noted Rabindra researcher, essayist and poet Ahmad Rafiq.

A press conference was held yesterday in this regard at the Channel i office where noted Tagore singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya with Director General of Bangala Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan and head of news of the Channel i Shykh Seraj handed over a cheque worth TK 100,000, a crest and an uttaria to Ahmad Rafiq. Cultural activist and filmmaker Nasir Uddin Yousuff Bacchu, Managing Director of Channel i, Faridur Reza Sagar, Deputy Managing Director of AB Bank Limited Sazzad Hussain and media personality Ali Imam were present at the programme.

Ahamd Rafiq expressed his gratitude to Channal i and said: “I am proud to receive the award.” Talking about the beauty and strength of Tagore’s literature, he said:  “We generally know Tagore through his poems and songs. But to consume his entire philosophy, one have to go through his prudent essays which can direct us to the process of building a progressive nation.”

Noted artists, littérateurs, Tagore enthusiasts, cultural and media personalities with the Channel i family will inaugurate the day-long Rabindra Mela at 11:05am.

Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya’s solo album titled Kon Gagoner Tara will be launched at the event.

The fair will have 20 stalls featuring products of the cottage and handicraft industries, pansupari (betel nut and betel leaf) and traditional food. Besides, live performances of music and dance will be presented at the event. Channel i will telecast the ocassion live.
