Police have arrested the former personal security guard of former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ghulam Azam, who is detained after being convicted on charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, with four firearms in capital’s Mirpur.
Identified as Mojaffar Hossain, 50, has been arrested at around 9pm, said Inspector Salah Uddin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur police station.
The OC said they arrested Mojaffar by conducting a raid at an office of a developer company at Rainkhola, adjacent to the Commerce College in Mirpur.
“Apart from a shotgun, a pistol, a rifle and a double-barrel gun, a significant number of sharp weapons have been recovered from the office,” the OC said.
However, all the firearms have the licences, he added.
Police in Mirpur said Mojaffar, also the father-in-law of the son of fugitive death row convict Bachchu Rajakar in Faridpur, has been arrested for his involvement with the politics of Jamaat and its activities.
Mojaffar had been holding meetings against the government and the country at the building.
