Update : 02 May 2014, 03:51 PM

The family members of 11 accused, who were sent to jail for their involvement with the abduction of a businessman, have denied the allegation citing that the incident took place over manpower business.

The relatives of the 11 accused claimed that the businessman Bazlur Rashid ran manpower business besides his cloth trading and he cheated them under false promises of sending abroad.

According to the family members of the accused, Bazlur took money from one of the accused, Sri Sujon Kumer, and did not return the amount back despite of making many promises.

Rafiq, uncle of Sujon the Dhaka Tribune: “Bazlu took Tk 220,000 from Sujan alluring him with job in abroad two years back. But Bazlu didn't send him. After several arbitrations, we understood that we have been deceived.

Later, through a local mediation, it was fixed that our money would be returned on Thursday (April 30). As per the promise, our relatives went to get the money,” he added.

Claiming that Bazlu was trying to escape the scene when Sujon along with others reached his place, he said: “Our people held Bazlu and tried to take him to nearby police station by the tinted-glass microbus. But, Bazlu's people hand them over to police after beating them alleging that they were trying to abduct him.”

Rafiq also claimed that they have a written document that contained the record of money transaction.

However, Bazlu denied the allegations of the family members of the accused.

The detainees were caught fleeing on a microbus picking up businessman Bazlur Rashid at Mithapukur Bazar on Thursday.

Later, Bazlu's Brother Tanzim Hossain filed a abduction case with Manda police and the detainees were produced before a local court.

The eleven, including Sujon, were sent to the court on Friday morning, Manda police Officer-in-Charge Abdur Razzak said.
