The police have recovered the bodies of six people, who were abducted from the city corporation area near Shitalakhya river at the Kilagachia area in Narayanganj on Wednesday.

Of the bodies, five were identified as of Narayanganj City Corporation Councillor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, Nazrul's close aides Tajul and Shwapan and Chandan's driver Ibrahim.

Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Akhter Morshed confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Police have recovered six bodies from the river so far. Of the bodies, five have been identified by family members.”

Earlier in the day, those six bodies have been seen floating in Shitalakhya river. Later, police and family members identified one body as of Nazrul, councilor of ward No 2 and a panel mayor of the Narayanganj City Corporation.

Nazrul was abducted along with his close aides Tajul, Shwapan, Liton and Jahangir from the Linkroad area of the city on April 27.

In the meantime, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver Ibrahim were abducted from the court area.

Later, a three-member committee led by the additional deputy inspector general of police was formed to investigate the abduction of seven people including the councilor.

In the wake of frequent abductions in Narayanganj, the authorities have withdrawn Narayanganj police superintendent, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) commander and two OCs.
