N'ganj abduction: 4 more bodies recovered Four more bodies, which were seen floating in Shitalakhya river, have been recovered on Wednesday evening, hours after the recovery of the body of abducted city councilor Nazrul Islam.

Of the four bodies three were identified as Nazrul Islam's close aides Tajul and Shwapan and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar's driver Ibrahim.

Abducted NCC councillor's body found in Shitalakhya

Police have recovered the body of the abducted councillor of ward 2 of Narayanganj City Corporation, Nazrul Islam, from Shitalakhya river at Kilagachia area in Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.

His body was among the three decomposed bodies, which were found floating in Shitalakhya river earlier in the day.

Kamal: Abduction rate down than before

Terming the recent abduction spree an “alarming incident,” State Minister for Home, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, said the current abduction rate has gone down than previous years in the country.

The Minister made the observation while addressing a press conference in the ministry around 4.00pm on Wednesday.

Hajj flights begin from August 27

Flights for pilgrims willing to perform the Hajj this year will begin from the end of August, Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon has said.

Additionally, this year, the government will form a special task force to ensure smooth faring of the pilgrims, the minister said in a press conference on Wednesday.

HRW blames govt, opposition for poll violence

The government and rival opposition parties are responsible for the violence during the latest general election in Bangladesh, Human Rights Watch has said.

“These were the bloodiest elections since independence, and unless concrete steps are taken, the situation is likely to worsen,” its Asia Director Brad Adams said.

Searchers: Wreckage in Bay of Bengal not from MH370

A private company has said it had found what it believes is wreckage of a plane in the Bay of Bengal that should be investigated as potential debris from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, but the possibility was dismissed by search coordinators.

Narayanganj 5 MP Nasim Osman dies

Member of Parliament from Narayanganj 5 and Jatiya Party Presidium Member Nasim Osman has died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at an India hospital.

His brother AKM Shamim Osman, who is a lawmaker from the Awami League, told the Dhaka Tribune that Nasim had died of cardiac arrest around 4am.

Narayanganj gets new DC

The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday, a day after the former DC was withdrawn.

Former Narayanganj deputy commissioner Monoj Kanti Boral,also the former joint secretary of the public administration, has been appointed as joint secretary for Shipping.

BAF training plane catches fire

Fire has broken out in a training plane of Bangladesh Air Force while landing at Chittagong Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Chittagong Airport Manager Wing Commander Nur-e-Alam has confirmed about the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.

PM envisages another nuclear power plan  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has envisaged to build another nuclear power plant in the southern part of the country after successful completion of the first one in Rooppur.

The premier said this while addressing the officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology at Bangladesh Secretariat during her first visit to the ministry on Wednesday after taking office in January last.

BCL: Blood will be avenged with blood

Bangladesh Chhatra League has blamed Islami Chhatra Shibir for attack on their activists at Rajshahi University and vowed for “stern revenge” against them.

“They have cut off the legs of our activists, we will take their heads,” Chhatra League acting President Joydeb Nandi said at a protest programme on Wednesday.
