A local leader of Jubo League, a front organisation of Awami League, has been gunned down near Kalu Member Bridge under Karpara union in the district on Monday afternoon.
The deceased is Karpara union unit JL convening committee member Saiful Islam.
Up member Bellal Hossain said: “A gang of criminals led by Mithu and Sohel, opened fire on Saiful in the afternoon while he was on his way back home, leaving him dead on the spot.”
Ramganj police station Officer-in-Charge Lokman Hossain said: “Saiful was a terrorist and wanted in four cases.
Police suspected that a rival gang of local terrorists has killed him,” he added.
