12 killed in Netrokona, Sunamganj nor’wester

At least 12 people have died in a storm in Netrokona and Sunamganj districts on Sunday night.

Netrokona: Eight people including four of a family have died in nor’wester in four upazilas of Netrokona on Sunday night.

Abdullah Al Nazrul, district intelligence officer, has confirmed about the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.

The four deceased of a family of Kalmakanda were identified as Afroza Akter, 28, Sagar Ahmed 10, Rana, 7 and Jony, 4. They were killed in a wall collapse of the house as nor’wester lashed it.

The rest of the dead are Mamun, 11, of Kalmakanda upazila, Emdad, of Barhatta upazila, Habibur Rahman alias Fazar Ali, 90, of Sadar upazila and Suma Akter, 9, of Mohonganj upazila.

When contacted, Netrokona Police Superintendent Md Zakir Hossain said: “A storm swept through Sadar, Barhatta, Mohonganj and Kalmakanda upazilas of the district between 10pm and 12:00pm, killing eight people and damaging lots of houses.”

Sunamganj: Four people were killed when a storm swept over Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj on Sunday night, Devjit Singh.

Sunamganj Police Superintendent Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid has confirmed about the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.

The deceased were identified as Kasu Mia, 40, son of late Lalu Mia, of Rajapur village, Bithi Akter, 10, daughter of Shafiqul Mia, of the same village, Shamsu Mia, 60, son of late Santu Mia, of Madhupur village, Dud Mia, 65, son of late Zamir Ali, of Jagannathpur village of Madyanagar.

The nor’wester lasted for an hour beginning from 11pm.
