The cabinet secretaries of the Saarc countries have agreed to enhance internal cooperation and work together to prevent poverty.
They reached a consensus during a two-day long meeting of the cabinet secretaries of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation’s member countries held in the capital's Ruposhi Bangla hotel.
The cabinet secretaries also agreed to take comprehensive measures to ensure good governance in the financial sector and best use of information technology to improve the standard of service for the citizens.
“The meeting of the cabinet secretaries identified ‘poverty’ as main enemy against the development of the South Asian region,” Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told journalists after conclusion of the meeting.
He said the cabinet secretaries of the Saarc countries assured the forum that measures would be taken after consulting with their authorities.
